Something fishy is brewing in Cleveland as head coach Kevin Stefanski seemingly threw his franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson under the bus. Stefanski recently revealed that the Cleveland Browns QB Watson didn’t want to play against the Baltimore Ravens despite being medically cleared to step onto the field on Sunday.
On Monday, when asked whether Deshaun Watson was medically cleared to play in the game against their AFC North division rivals the Ravens, Kevin Stefanski simply replied, “Yes.”
Stefanski further went on to say that Watson just “did not feel like” he couldn’t perform to full capabilities and decided not to play in a division game. “He knows his body. He’s played through serious pain before. Very, very serious injuries. It wasn’t a matter of pain tolerance or anything. He just did not feel like he had his full faculties,” Stefanski said according to Pro Football Talk.
Furthermore, Stefanski also said that Watson didn’t throw at all during the practice sessions leading to the game. Watson ultimately felt uncomfortable playing with his shoulder injury, leading the Browns to start rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson against the tough Ravens defense.
“We listed him as questionable. He didn’t throw all week, and we had to get to the game, that was going to be the first time he was going to throw to see, ultimately, how he felt,” Stefanski said.
It really seemed like a last-minute decision by the Browns, since the game plan looked like it was made for Watson instead of a rookie quarterback. Thompson-Robinson threw the rock 36 times against the Ravens and had very little help from the run game. Ultimately, the rookie folded under pressure and threw 3 interceptions in the game leading to the Browns suffering a humiliating 28-3 loss against their division rivals.
Kevin Stefanski expects Deshaun Watson to play against the 49ers
The Browns are heading into a bye week in week 5 of the ongoing NFL season. It would be a perfect bye week for the Browns and Deshaun Watson, who is still recovering from his shoulder injury.
Recently, the Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski, said that the plan is for Watson to get healthy in the bye week. He further revealed Watson is expected to start against the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday in their week 6 matchup.
Amidst this, Stefanski publicly throwing Watson under the bus did not sit well with the Browns fans and many experts. Even Undisputed show hosts Skip Bayless and Richard Sherman both said that they have never seen a head coach publicly calling out his quarterback ever in their career.
