The Denver Broncos have made some huge moves in back-to-back NFL off-seasons. In 2022, the Broncos surprised everyone by making a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire QB Russell Wilson. In 2023, the Denver-based franchise successfully hired the Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton after a disastrous 2022 season.

As mentioned before, despite acquiring Russell Wilson, the Denver Broncos had one of the worst seasons in the franchise’s history in 2022. They started the season as Super Bowl contenders and finished the season dead last in the AFC West division with an abysmal 5-12 record. Other than their losses, there were plenty of off-field issues in Denver.

After the Broncos got beaten badly by the LA Rams in week 16, the Broncos offensive linemen were involved in a heated sideline scuffle. Furthermore, Russell Wilson was accused of having his own office in the locker room. Nevertheless, due to the disastrous 2022 season, the Broncos parted ways with their rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett even before the season concluded.

Furthermore, the Broncos’ new owners quickly hired Sean Payton, who took some time off from coaching during the 2022 season. Experts believe Payton can really turn the tide around in Denver and help Russell become a better signal caller.

The Broncos are really optimistic about the 2023 season after pairing up their expensive QB Russell Wilson with the former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton. The Denver-based franchise gave up a 2023 1st round draft pick and a 2024 second-round draft pick to acquire Payton.

Amidst this situation, the former New York Jets wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson has warned the Broncos QB that Payton might move on from Wilson real quick if he doesn’t perform well next season.

“He can certainly fix him and if he doesn’t, it will not be on Sean Payton. It’ll be on Russell Wilson,” Johnson said during a recent episode of the show NFL on ESPN. “I know Sean very, very, very, well. Very well. And I can guarantee you, if it doesn’t go the way he wants it to go, despite salary cap ramifications and whatnot, there’s going to be some major changes and issues at the quarterback position in 2024 for the Denver Broncos.”

Getting Sean Payton as his head coach at this point of his career is really a blessing for Russell Wilson. Maybe next season, the pair will work out and hopefully, they will lead the Broncos franchise to a Super Bowl in the near future.
