Both Kirk Cousins and Kyle Pitts have worn the No. 8 jersey during their NFL careers. And the fate of the number is still in contention after the veteran quarterback signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
Following his six-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins agreed to switch states, move to Georgia, and continue his league journey. The Falcons were on the lookout for a new quarterback because the word in Atlanta was that anyone was better than Desmond Ridder.

The 2022 third-round pick hasn’t lived up to expectations with eight wins from 19 games. Hence, general manager Terry Fontenot poached an unhappy Cousins from the Vikings. Now that the 35-year-old is part of the team, he would require a jersey number and reports claim that he would love to wear the No. 8, which is currently owned by tight end Kyle Pitts.
If it’s a number you want to pivot from, great, you let me know. I’ve obviously worn No. 8 since high school. If it’s a number you want to keep, that’s fine; no problem. I just want to be a good teammate.Cousins said during his first press conference as a Falcons player.
Kirk Cousins and Kyle Pitts were in touch weeks before his move to the Falcons
The Vikings were confident that they would be able to keep hold of Kirk Cousins. Yet both parties were unable to find a middle ground.

Meanwhile, the four-time Pro Bowler was vacationing with his family at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Park. He was standing in line for the Guardians of the Galaxy ride when he received several messages from an unknown number.
As it turns out, that number belonged to Pitts. Even before Cousins’ move to Atlanta became official news, the former Gator wanted to establish a bond with his future quarterback.
We're ready for you to take us to promise land.Pitts wrote.
However, that road is difficult, cousins understand that. Before aiming for such a target, it’s important to forge friendships.
We need to build continuity. That’s got to be intentional… I want to see Drake London. I want to see every catch he’s had in the league so far. [And] I want to watch Kyle Pitts the same.
Cousins said, as per the Falcons’ official website.
It surely is an exciting prospect for Falcons fans. And if Pitts is unsure about parting ways with his number 8, Cousins even offered to write a check to the charity of his choice. He can do that after agreeing to a staggering four-year, $180 million deal with the Falcons.
