The worst fear of all Minnesota Vikings fans’ has come out to be true. An MRI confirmed that quarterback Kirk Cousins has suffered a torn right Achilles tendon and as a result, will no longer be able to play for the rest of the season, the team announced. He is set to have surgery and the date for the same is yet to be finalized but it is going to take place within the next week.
This was definitely not how Kirk Cousins had envisioned his final season under his existing contract to end. He was having a great year as he led the league in passing touchdowns with 16 so far. He ranked second in terms of passing yards with 2,057, and his passer rating at 103.8 was the third-highest in the NFL this season.
All of these stats now mean nothing as Cousins is now out for the season and as many presume, he may have played his last game for the Vikings. Cousins went down in the final quarter of the game against the Packers. Everyone knew it was bad when the quarterback limped off the field on his left leg. This puts the rest of the Vikings’ season in jeopardy as the team does not have a solid backup option at quarterback.
Vikings fans left heartbroken by Kirk Cousins’ Achilles injury
Watching Cousins get carted off the field was emotional for fans as there was a possibility that this may be the last time they’d get to see him step on the field in a Vikings jersey. There is no guarantee that the team will decide to stick with Cousins after he comes back from his injury as he is yet to be offered an extension.
Vikings fans were naturally distraught and felt terrible for the quarterback. Here’s how they responded on X.

That sucks for vikings fans. Who is their backup?

That’s a question even the team cannot answer at this point.

I feel awful for Kirk Cousins…

Never missed a game due to injury in his career, he’s pulling the Vikings out of 1-4 and back into the playoff race, in a contract season, and he likely tore his Achilles..
Horrible timing for the injury, and you hate to see it happen to a guy… pic.twitter.com/qpzWewOQFZ
If this is it for his time in Minnesota I think he’s the 2nd best QB they’ve ever had. And based off his career might be the most underrated QB of all-time

I hope he comes back to the Vikings but wherever he goes I hope he returns to the field with strength and plays great again
Nothing but respect for Kirk Cousins. The fans love him and know what he is all about. One can only hope that the quarterback makes a speedy recovery and comes back to finish the job for the Minnesota Vikings next season. Jaren Hall will now be the starting quarterback for the Vikings.
