Kirk Cousins has spoken out regarding his Achilles injury for the first time since his surgery. In an interview with ESPN, the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings stated the thoughts which ran through his head when the injury occurred and the road ahead.

Cousins’ primary fear when the injury happened was, “Is this the last time I play football?” His fear was justified considering that he was barely able to walk by himself but thankfully, the quarterback will be okay as he undergoes physical therapy for his Achilles injury and is expected to return next season. The quarterback was grateful that his injury was not career-ending.

The more pressing issue for Kirk Cousins is the fact that his contract is set to end with the Minnesota Vikings next March, and until he went down, Kevin O’Connell viewed Cousins as irreplaceable but all of this was until Joshua Dobbs happened…

Kirk Cousins’ biggest concern should be what the future holds for his career

Joshua Dobbs, who was brought in to replace Kirk Cousins and help the Vikings just sail through the rest of the regular season has managed to already win the hearts of the fans of the team. He has won the team in both the games in which he has played and has a QBR of 87.4. However, Kirk Cousins remains unfazed by this and is certain about one thing, he wants to finish his career as a Viking.

The quarterback is not sweating his contract negotiations as of yet, he is taking it one day at a time and right now, he is not interested in diverting the attention from the team to himself. Cousins shared one message from team psychologist Brownell Mack which set him onto a positive path.

The message read as follows:

When you face adversity like this, you'll look back down the road and many times you're better because of it. Not in spite of it."

This has led Kirk Cousins to believe one thing:

I just believe there's more of the story up ahead. That's what I really believe...

Cousins was having the best year of his career so far, he was leading the league in touchdowns thrown when he went down and was second overall when it came to passing yards. Despite Joshua Dobbs performing at an elite level, it is doubtful if Minnesota would want to part ways with Kirk Cousins. He has been the most reliable and healthiest quarterback in the NFL and he knows the offense so well at this point, no other QB can achieve the same in a short span.
