Kirk Cousins reportedly planning to move his family to Atlanta, stirring heavy rumors of his potential move from Vikings to the Falcons
Cousins can't be tagged and will enter free agency after March 11 if the Vikings fail to reach an agreement with him before then.

Kirk Cousins‘ six-year love with the Minnesota Vikings could be coming to an end in the offseason. His contract with the Vikings is up, which means that the 35-year-old would hit free agency for the second time in his NFL career.
Cousins is one of the best quarterbacks in the franchise’s history. He holds several records, which include the most passing yards. If he hadn’t suffered a tear in his Achilles tendon, then perhaps he would have created daylight between him and the other QBs. As a result, he missed a big chunk of the 2023 season undergoing surgery.
While the Vikings front office wants to bring back Cousins on a short-term deal, he continues to attract several quarterback-seeking teams. NBC Sports Pro Football Talk speculated that he may leave Minnesota and move south.
The Atlanta Falcons reportedly want to sign Kirk Cousins
PFT’s Mike Florio heard from reliable sources, close to the Cousins, that a move to the Atlanta Falcons would be favorable. The four-time Pro Bowler’s wife, Julie, grew up nearby in Alpharetta, Georgia. Her parents still live there, so they wouldn’t have to go house hunting too far and crash at their place until things settled down.
On the other hand, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell is a massive fan of Kirk Cousins. His first preference at the quarterback spot is still the former Washington shot-caller. They still have six days to continue with their negotiations before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 11.
However, the main reason the Vikings are slow to deal with Cousins is that they have other contracts to sort out. Namely, their wide receiver No. 1 is Justin Jefferson. The LSU graduate is projected to earn between $30 and $35 million a year.
It’s clear that the Vikings’ priority is Jefferson because he is young, and despite missing a few games due to injury and having to receive three different QBs in Cousins’ absence, he still managed to cross the 1000 receiving yards threshold along with five touchdowns. Unfortunately, they can’t franchise tag Cousins because the contract voids after the deadline for applying the franchise tag.
This is a great time to be part of the Falcons offense. With the likes of Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts backing him up, Cousins shouldn’t have much difficulty doing well in the rather weak NFC South. The Falcons finished 7-10 last season, despite an average quarterback core of Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke.
