“It’s a Gen Z thing”: Arizona Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury makes light of sideline argument with QB Kyler Murray

Kyler Murray was caught yelling at Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury in the Cardinals loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The Arizona Cardinals managed to pull through and upset the New Orleans Saints 42-34. It was the only interesting Thursday Night Football game we have seen all season as both teams went back and forth, throwing touchdowns rather than just scoring field goals to put points on the board. The game also witnessed a tense exchange of words between the Cardinals Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury and quarterback Kyler Murray.

Just moments before we went to halftime, Kyler Murray walked back restlessly to the team’s sideline when a timeout was called. Murray proceeded to go and bash Kliff Kingsbury. The cameras caught him yelling at the Head Coach. His words were somewhat surprising as he seemed to tell his play-caller to “Calm the fu*k down! Calm the fu*k down.” Murray was having none of it and had to be held back by his teammate before things could escalate any further.

DeAndre Hopkins, the Arizona Cardinals wideout, had to step in and hold Kyler Murray back as he was going off on his Head Coach. Hopkins can be seen standing in the way of the quarterback and the coach. He then proceeded to calm him down.

In the press conference after the game, it was certain that both parties were going to be subjected to questions about this exchange. Kliff Kingsbury downplayed the entire incident in the post-game press conference and did not seem to consider it to be a big deal at all.

Here’s what he had to say. “He said I don’t look good on TV, acting that fiery. Guess it’s a Gen Z thing, he said ‘You’re on TV so calm down.’ I like showing emotion.” He did confess that there was a difference of opinion between the two, but it was nothing serious and they resolved it on the field.

The quarterback had a similar response, as he attributed the reason for that outburst to the behavior of his coach. “He’s real animated over there on the sidelines sometimes. ‘Calm down. We’re good, we’re going to make it right. We ended up scoring so that was good. That’s all I was saying… Just chill out.” Despite both of them downplaying the significance of this argument, it was clear that the Cardinals QB1 was visibly frustrated with Kingsbury’s decisions during the game.

The Cardinals are dead last in the NFC West with a record of 3-4. The past couple of weeks have not been easy for them as they are struggling to close out games and come out on top. Kyler Murray just wants to go out there and win some games and that pent-up frustration came out in the game against the New Orleans Saints.

There is also an argument that can be made in Murray’s favor, as Kingsbury has not been held accountable for the losses suffered by the team. It would be fair to say that this argument between the quarterback and the coach was not anything. It did mean something, but they both acted in a professional manner and made sure that they did not air their dirty laundry out in the public.
