A new era of college football began at Williams Stadium in Virginia as head coach Jamey Chadwell took charge of his first Liberty football game as they faced Bowling Green on Saturday. They came out on top with a 34-24 scoreline as Kobe Singleton shined for the Flames.

The cornerback stole the show with a pick-6, highlighting a five-interception day by the Liberty defense. Singleton, who recently moved to Liberty from the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, made a 36-yard return of a Green’s quarterback Connor Bazelak pass in the second quarter.

As the clock ticked, the Flames began to grab hold of the game and increased their lead with two back-to-back touchdowns in the second quarter. The Bowling Green tried their best to keep their opponents at bay, but were failing miserably. Bazelak looked shaky throughout the match, and as a result, threw three interceptions. One of them was a pick from Kobe Singleton. After the remarkable play, he joined the fans in the stands and brought out a Joker mask to say, “Why so serious?”

It wasn’t smooth sailing for the Liberty Flames as the Green mounted a comeback. Running back Terion Stewart led from the front as he ran the length of the field for a first down. But it was a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown that changed the trajectory of the match. It cut Liberty’s lead to 24–14 just before the break.

The Falcons came out stronger in the second half and were able to consistently move the ball against the Liberty defense. It was a big pace change for Bowling Green, which was lacking during the earlier parts of the game.

But in the end, Liberty managed to contain the resurgence. QB 1 Salter managed a career-high 82 yards while completing 11 of 20 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, head coach Chadwell recorded his 100th career victory. He and the Flames will face the New Mexico State football team in their first-ever Conference USA game this Saturday.
