Kris Jenkins was looking forward to righting the wrongs of the past for the Michigan Wolverines this season. He aimed to help the Wolves finally win the college football championship, which they had failed to do for the last two years.

For Michigan to realize its dreams, they had to oust the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl. Jenkins wanted to go in prepared for the game and did not want to make the same mistakes as last time in the TCU game.

When you turn on the TCU game, you see our defense lagging behind, making easy mistakes, not running to the football.
Jenkins said via Brett McMurphy of Action Network.

Michigan had gone the entire 2023 season unbeaten, and beating Bama would prove poetic justice. The game finished 20-20 on Monday and required overtime to decide the victor. Runningback Blake Corum, who had 19 carries on the night, scored the all-important touchdown from a JJ McCarthy pass to seal Michigan’s place in the college football playoffs.

Jenkins and co. had led Michigan to a Rose Bowl victory since the 1997 season. When the Wolverines players were celebrating the win, Jenkins’ mom Shay Delotch hugged the young interior defensive lineman from behind and spoke with tears of joy in her eyes.

I know how hard you [Kris Jenkins] worked for this. I am so proud of you. You worked for it so hard. People don't get it; they don't know. They think it's easy; they talk about it. On the sidelines, they don't know how hard you worked about it. I am so proud of you.

Kris Jenkins’ 2024 NFL Draft prospect

The 22-year-old hails from Maryland and is the son of former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. His uncle, Cullen Jenkins, is also a former NFL player. Cullen was drafted by the Green Bay Packers back in 2003.

Jenkins Jr. joined Michigan in 2020 and has been one of the key figures for Jim Harbaugh’s team. Although IDT doesn’t get to use much of their body to attack opposition players, Kris has 33 tackles this season (fourth on the team), plus an interception and a fumble recovery.

According to ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr., as per MLive.com, Kris Jenkins has the chance to be the fourth-best defensive tackle prospect in the 2024 draft. He was voted Michigan’s co-defensive player of the year on a team that had the top defense in the 2023 college football season.
