The San Francisco 49ers escaped with a 24-21 win over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. It was a wonderful back-and-forth game that saw the Packers take a surprise lead in the second half. However, Kyle Shanahan‘s men came back late in the fourth quarter to seal a memorable win and advance to the NFC Championship game.
Although the Niners were favored to win the game by 9.5 points, they were dealt a major blow in the first half of the game when WR Deebo Samuel suffered a shoulder injury. He left the game and never returned as cameras caught him coming out of the locker room without his pads at the beginning of the second half.
Niners’ HC Kyle Shanahan opened up about Samuel’s injury after the game. Shanahan said while talking about Samuel’s timeline for a comeback:
I don’t know yet. I mean, he tried to come back, couldn’t do it. I know he did something similar versus Cleveland, so we’ll see tomorrow.Kyle Shanahan said
The All-Pro receiver only had two receptions for 24 yards prior to his injury.
Samuel is a massive piece in the Niners’ offensive puzzle. A lot of plays go through him. Not having a weapon like Samuel will hugely affect the 49ers’ offense. The Niners will hope to get him back for the Championship game next Sunday. They await the winner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Detroit Lions game tonight.
Kyle Shanahan praised Brock Purdy for leading the Niners on a game-winning drive against the Packers
The San Francisco 49ers survived on Saturday against a young Green Bay Packers team in the second round of the playoffs, thanks to Brock Purdy. The former last pick of the draft led the 49ers on a game-winning fourth-quarter drive that gave his team a three-point lead. It proved to be enough as the Packers’ final drive ended with a Jordan Love-interception to end the game.
HC Kyle Shanahan talked about Purdy’s drive and praised him for making some big plays throughout the game. Shanahan said after the game:
Brock, he made some big plays in this game. Missed a couple, but leading us down on our last drive and getting the win, that's all I can ask for.Kyle Shanahan said
Purdy finished the game with 252 yards and a touchdown.
Although Purdy struggled on Saturday, he has had a terrific season. The second-year quarterback racked up 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a passer rating of 113.0. He was selected to the Pro-Bowl this year after his stellar production.
