The San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Green Bay Packers last Saturday wasn’t a pretty one. They came into the game as favorites, but were pushed to the limit by a young Packers team that had embarrassed the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. Green Bay, led by Jordan Love, proved to be a handful and almost won the game against Brock Purdy and the Niners.

However, Purdy and company did just enough to win the game. The second-year quarterback struggled throughout the game under terrible weather conditions. It rained all night and that made it difficult to grip the ball. The former last pick of the draft missed a lot of throws and that could’ve proved catastrophic for the Niners. San Francisco’s HC Kyle Shanahan talked on Monday about Purdy’s missed throws.

Shanahan said when asked if the weather bothered Purdy to make throws on Saturday:

I think it did a little bit with I think a couple. So there’s definitely a few that got Brock, a few that he probably just missed trying to throw around a guy so it doesn’t get tipped and a couple that you just can’t explain, that just do happen.

Shanahan further said:

He had a few too many of them. He also made some hell of a throws too... So, he did a lot of good things too. By no means was he perfect, but it was really cool when we needed him to be at his best, he was.

Purdy had a great season, but he wasn’t supposed to be in this position. Shanahan told him during the offseason that the Niners would start Tom Brady over him this season. That, obviously, did not happen and now the 49ers are just one win away from reaching the Super Bowl.

Brock Purdy talked about leading the Niners to the Championship game after win over the Packers

The San Francisco 49ers’ Divisional Round win over the Green Bay Packers was a result of a tenacious final drive from Brock Purdy and company. The former last pick of the draft successfully orchestrated a 12-play, 69-yard drive in the final few minutes of the game to give the Niners a 24-21 lead. That proved to be enough as San Francisco advanced to their second consecutive NFC Championship game.

Purdy talked about the drive and also his struggle to grip the ball in torrential rain throughout the game. Purdy said about the final drive:

It's like, we had what we wanted right in front of us, so you have to clean the slate, you have to have a clean mind, and not try to force anything, take what the defense gives you, and find a way.

He later said about the rain affecting his throws during the game:

Yeah, there was some times where I was dropping back and the ball's a little wet from the grass, and yeah, sort of affected some accuracy and stuff. But dude, that's football, so I've got to be better in that area.
Brock Purdy added

The Niners will host the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game next Sunday. It will be San Francisco’s second successive championship game and they will enter the game as favorites against the Lions.
