As the NFL 2023-24 season is coming to an end, the question for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award is getting intense. Multiple contenders have been named as the finalists for this highly acclaimed award, including the San Francisco 49ers’ stars Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey.
Amid all the discussions, Kyle Shanahan, the head coach for the San Francisco 49ers has given his two cents about the award. The Niners have two of their players in the finalists list of the award. These two players were Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey. When asked that, the Niners HC told the reporters Press that they both deserve that honor during their pre-game press conference on Thursday.
That’s what they deserve. The way they played all year, the way they played last year, both of them at their positions as good as anybody at quarterback and running back I’ve been around. Also, I watched football for a long time. There’s a lot of good players in this league. So that sucks that one person’s got to get all those awards, but those guys are right there with those other guys.Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Thursday
This year, the Niners have relied on both these players instead of relying on one. Purdy was at his usual best but McCaffrey ran the show in both regular season as well as in playoffs. The running back did everything he could do to help his team. Ran plays, blocked opponents, and scored touchdowns.
McCaffrey produced a lot of clutch moments throughout the season. Every time, Purdy failed, McCaffrey was there to save his team. The latest example was the playoff game against the Packers. Purdy had a bad game against the Packers and it was McCaffrey who led from the front with multiple touchdowns including a game-winning TD in clutch time.
MVP finalists Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey support each other
The San Francisco 49ers are currently preparing for their NFC Championship game. They have two MVP finalists in their team, Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey. Despite many arguments among fans and experts, both players have always had the back of each other ever since they became teammates.
Both Purdy and McCaffrey have always shown support for each other on public forums. When the press asked Purdy, the quarterback said that it was McCaffrey who deserved the Award. The running back had the same reaction to Purdy’s name when he was asked.
The award will be announced on February eighth during the annual NFL Honors event. Before that, the Niners are scheduled to take on the Baltimore Ravens in their NFC Championship matchup this weekend.
The 49ers will need the service from both players in the NFC Championship Game. The duo had a good twinning throughout the season. Purdy though had a bad game in the Postseason, nonetheless, he would get a chance to rectify them in the game against the Lions in the crucial playoff matchup.
