Looks like the loss against the Vikings was oddly tough on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, as he had to go through the concussion protocol. This paved the speculations regarding the quarterback not able to play in the all-important game against the Cincinnati Bengals in the coming week.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made an important update regarding Purdy’s status, suggesting he has plenty of them to get cleared to play the game, scheduled for October 30th. While talking to the media on Wednesday, Shanahan said:

He does have enough time…just, he's got to go through the process.

However, in the NFL, it’s not a common practice for the coaches to make any such comments about the team players in the protocol. But in recent times, the rules have gotten rather lax, as many coaches are doing this nowadays. Although there hasn’t been any official statement suggesting that Purdy would get cleared, chances are likely so. And as just four days remaining to the game and multiple doctors have to clear the quarterback to play, so the chances remain slight.

Coach Shanahan believes that Purdy gained the injury in the fourth quarter when he took on a quarterback sneak. Purdy seemed alright during the post-game press conference and after being injured, he was fine. He said:

We don't know for sure because he didn't start getting it until the plane. So I don't know exactly, but I'd probably guess that.

The 49ers’ defense fails to deliver in back-to-back losses

49ers under coach Shanahan is known for playing with an efficient and versatile scheme, having one of the most balanced and avenging defenses in the NFL. However, for the past two weeks of this season, the 49ers seemed to be in a recessive position as the opponent beat them.

Despite passing 45 sacks, the 49ers could not sack Kirk Cousins even once, marking their sixth game without one, since 2019 and also, gave up 378 passing yards, recording the second-worst in the last five years. Though they had a couple of opportunities during the game where they could had a game-changer it did not work out.

In the game against the Vikings, the 49ers suffered a 22-17 loss with a season-high of 452 yards. And a week before that, the team lost the game at 19-17 against Cleveland. Under coach Shanahan, the team fell to a 0-36 while going after eight or more points in the fourth quarterback, including the playoffs.
