Brock Purdy has been the biggest underdog story in the NFL this season. Despite being the last pick in his draft class and being thrust into an unexpected situation, he has managed to lead the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in just two years of playing in the NFL. He gets a lot of hate and criticism.

Head Coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media ahead of the big game on Sunday and stood up for his quarterback.

This is what I love about Brock. Last pick in the draft. Takes us to the conference championship game twice and this Super Bowl in two years. Getting talked about for MVP. And the dude, he doesn't have to work at not listening to it or trying to stay humble or truing to not get caught up in how life is changing.

Kyle Shanahan is in awe of how well Brock Purdy has managed to handle all the spotlight and media attention he has been subjected to this season. For a sophomore in the NFL, that is impressive considering it is normal for players to get caught up in the fame. Purdy has not just played like an MVP for most of the season but has managed to keep his head down and work consistently while being a team player.

Shanahan further stated,

He doesn't care. He really has a true foundation and knows who he is and who he wants to be. That is rare for any human. He's a special player.

Mr. Irrelevant is definitely special, not once throughout the season has he given the impression that the 49ers are succeeding because of him. It is one of the reasons he is respected by all of his teammates as well, be it George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, or Nick Bosa, all of them have had positive things to say about the man.

Shanahan’s comments come in light of former NFL QB Cam Newton’s comments calling him a game manager. Newton decided to stand by his comments while justifying them. Purdy had a classy response to the same and proved yet again why he is indeed a different breed from the rest of his counterparts.

With just a few days left to go for the Super Bowl, this game has the potential to cement Brock Purdy’s legacy as one of the best QBs in the NFL. Sure, he has a great team surrounding him, but football is a team game, and it has to be noted that not every great roster in the NFL this season with better QBs have managed to make it this far along.

The Baltimore Ravens had a great roster, the Dallas Cowboys had a great roster, but they failed to execute. Therefore, Purdy deserves his share of respect and has to get his flowers.
