“It’s DISRESPECTFUL”: Kyler Murray bashes the Cardinals over mandatory film study clause in his contract

Kyler Murray was not having it with the Cardinals accusing him of being ill-prepared

Kyler Murray is probably the only quarterback in the entire NFL who is disappointed after signing a massive contract extension. The Arizona Cardinals made him the second highest paid player in league history, his new contract is for 5 years and is worth $230.5 million out of which $104.3 million is guaranteed by March 24th. However, the contract came with a twist, it had a unique clause in it that no NFL contract has ever had.

Kyler Murray had to promise that he would undertake a minimum of 4 hours of film study every week mandatorily and if he failed to do so then it would be considered a breach of contract. This clause shook not only the entire Cardinals and NFL fanbase but also had analysts questioning his commitment of Murray to his profession. Kyler Murray was not happy with this clause being in the contract there either.

Kyler Murray held an unexpected press conference to clear his name and clarify the allegations being leveled against him:

Kliff Kingsbury claims he did not have anything to do with the ‘mandatory film’ clause

The quarterback did something unusual and announced that he is having a surprise press conference where he stated that the backlash he has been receiving from the homework study clause which mandates him to watch compulsory film has been nothing short of “disrespectful” and it is “a joke.”

This comes as no surprise, imagine if you worked hard for something your entire life, and when you finally get paid, everyone around begins to question your commitment. Kyler goes on to mention his list of achievements and accolades in high school and college, “Those things you can’t accomplish if you don’t prepare the right way and take the game seriously,” he goes on to add.

“There’s multiple different ways to watch film. Of course, we all watch film. That doesn’t need to be questioned. I refuse to let my work ethic and my preparation be in question. I’ve put in an incomprehensible amount of time in what I do,” he concludes. The quarterback then did not take any other questions relating to this topic. He refused to even share how he felt about the Cardinals putting such a clause in his contract.

Due to all the backlash and Kyler’s public disapproval of this, the Arizona Cardinals decided to remove the ‘independent study’ clause from his contract which means now it is not mandatory for him to watch 4 hours of film at the least. Murray had once stated in an old interview that he has always been gifted and that he knows what to do in every situation just by his instincts. Maybe this is why the Cardinals got concerned and decided to add such an addendum to the contract.
