Just about a week ago, Lamar Jackson signed a 5-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens worth up to $260 million. That blockbuster contract made Jackson the highest-paid NFL player of all time. The Ravens and Jackson have been working on this contract extension for the last two years. Now, as the business part is over, Jackson cannot wait to get on the field with the Ravens jersey in the 2023 season.

For a brief period, it seemed like the Ravens were moving from the former league MVP quarterback after they placed him under the non-exclusive franchise tag in early March. However, general manager Eric DeCosta kept working and reached a middle ground with Jackson on their contract talks.

According to reports, one of the demands Jackson had to sign a new contract was for the Ravens to get him some receiving weapons. The list includes Odell Beckham Jr. and the Arizona Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins.

But since the Ravens couldn’t afford both, they signed the free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and drafted wide receiver Zay Flowers, in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. It seems like Jackson is happy with the weapons his front office got for him since he has revealed that he wants to break the passing records with his new receiving corps.

During a press conference on Thursday, the 2-time Pro Bowl QB Lamar Jackson revealed that he wants to have a record-breaking season with the help of his new receivers.

“I think I told someone, like, ‘Man, I wanna throw for like 6,000 yards with the weapons we have,’” Jackson said. “And I’m not an individual award type guy or a stat watcher. I just want to do that because no one’s ever done it, and I feel like we have the weapons to do it.”

Jackson then went on to claim that despite his trade request back in March, he never really wanted to leave Baltimore. He ultimately wants to fulfill his draft day promise by winning a Super Bowl with them.

“To be honest with you, I really didn’t care for other teams, really,” Jackson said on Thursday. “I just really wanted to get something done here, I wanted to be here, I was like, ‘Man, OK, other teams are cool, but I want to be a Raven.’ … I really wanted to get this done before anything, before my time up and branch off somewhere else, I really want to finish my career here and win a Super Bowl here.”

Lamar Jackson was drafted by the Ravens as the 32nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Jackson was a projected top-10 pick but slid all the way to the end of the first round.

After Ravens scooped him with the last pick of the 1st round, Jackson told the Ravens fans that they would soon enjoy a Super Bowl victory. He will try to make that promise come true in the near future.
