More than a year after his injury in the 2022 Super Bowl, the former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. recently signed a new deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Many reports suggest that this move by the front office was made to please Lamar Jackson, whose future in Baltimore is in doubt as of now.
Odell Beckham Jr. signed a one-year contract worth up to $18 million with $15 million guaranteed with the Ravens on Sunday. The Baltimore-based football team rushed the signing before OBJ could meet with the New York Jets on Monday. And, after 5 years in Baltimore, the dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson has an elite wide receiver to throw to.
Many people believe that this new addition would pave the way for the Ravens to get a contract extension done with the 2-time Pro Bowl QB. Following the signing, Jackson posted a screenshot of a Facetime call with the newly signed 3-time Pro Bowl receiver on Sunday night on his social media account.
Furthermore, the new dynamic duo was spotted clubbing at Liv nightclub on Sunday night just hours after the signing news broke. It seems like the 26-year-old quarterback is really happy with his team adding a new offensive weapon to him.

Did Lamar Jackson play a recruiter role in the Odell Beckham Jr. signing?

The Ravens and Lamar Jackson were in a messy situation before. Jackson is currently placed under the non-exclusive franchise tag and if the Ravens or any other team failed to get a contract done, Jackson could either sit out or play for the Ravens in 2023 under the tag.
But the franchise finally spending big money on a wide receiver could help them keep the former league MVP QB. In fact, some reports suggest that the former All-Pro QB played a recruiter role in the signing.
According to reports, Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Ravens with “a clear understanding” that Jackson would be the starting QB in Baltimore next season. This could mean that Lamar Jackson plans to play for the Ravens under the franchise tag in the 2023 season. So, it seems both talented players are entering a contract year in 2023.
And by adding an elite wide receiver in free agency, the Baltimore Ravens could go into the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft with one less position to worry about. They somehow managed to keep Lamar Jackson and now if they can draft well, they could really make some noise in the AFC next season.
