Athletes are often criticized for self-destroying their own careers, the most recent being Antonio Brown who literally danced his way out of the league. However, a lesser-known or rather forgotten incident that occurred nearly six years ago can now be relived via an NFT.

Laremy Tunsil was an elite offensive tackle from Ole Miss who was a sure first-round pick entering the 2016 NFL draft. Just hours before the draft, he decided to ease up on the stress by taking a page out of Snoop Dogg’s book and hitting a gas-mask bong.

However, as fate would have it, this video of him smoking was leaked minutes before he was about to be selected at the top of the first round. Just a week before the 2016 draft, Tunsil was scheduled to go third as per Mel Kiper, however, due to this incident, Tunsil ended up slipping all the way to 13th and going to the Miami Dolphins.

This controversial video has now been converted into an NFT or Non-Fungible Token by the offensive tackle as we approach the 2022 NFL Draft. Tunsil remarked that “For the past 6 years, I have been asked about this moment, the gas mask. I’ve spent 6 years trying to do rather than say- on the field and off the field. I’m officially moving on and putting this moment in the past.”

The gas-mask bong video’s NFT will be auctioned off, the current bidding for the NFT as of Wednesday morning stood at.25 Ethereum or $700. The proceeds of this will be donated to The Prisoner Project which is a cause that supports people who have been locked up for marijuana-related offenses.

Your initial thought would be, “well he did get drafted, so what did he really lose out on?” Due to this slip in ranks, Tunsil ended up costing himself a sum of $12 million over a period of four years.

Despite this, Tunsil has had a good career being selected to two Pro Bowls, playing three seasons for the Dolphins, and signing a three-year, $66 million contract with the Texans before the 2021 season.
