Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams loses cousin in California shooting
NFL Star wide-receiver Davante Adams who was recently traded to the Las Vegas Raiders from Green Bay has suffered a personal loss today. He lost one of his cousins in the East Palo Alto area in California as a result of a shooting that took place in the area on Wednesday. Adams’ cousin’s name is Ralph Fields, the victim is 34 years of age.
Nearly three dozen rounds were fired in the shooting out of which Ralph was the only one who succumbed to his wounds, three others were injured in this horrific attack. Ralph Fields was shot at Jack Farrell Park on block 2500 of Fordham Street. As per the police, he passed away while being taken to the hospital.
Davante Adams donated equipment to the park where his cousin was shot just two months earlier:
One of Davante Adams’ other cousins Camellia Pittman who accompanied Fields in the ambulance en route to the hospital spoke about how she managed to keep his eyes open and awake, “I seen that my cousin had been shot, I approach him and I try to keep him awake by telling him good things like, ‘You’re OK. You’re going to make it. We’re here. You got this.‘”
The shooting happened when dozens of families were practicing for a softball tournament, a child who was present recorded the tragedy on his cellphone and capture the sound of over 30 shots being fired.
“Some of them would cry, I guess they didn’t expect anything like this to happen. It was a scary feeling for them,” a relative of one of the kids at the park described the environment of the area while the shooting was taking place.
The San Mateo Country District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation has a record of Fields who had earlier faced “Charges of negligent discharge of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.”
Davante Adams attended Palo Alto High School which is a few miles west of Jack Farrell Park. He was born in Redwood City. Our condolences are with Davante Adams, the family of Ralph Fields, and the ones injured in the shooting.
