In an unprecedented move, Mark Davis is cleaning the Las Vegas Raiders organization’s front office by removing key personnel from his coaching staff earlier this week to the team’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer earlier today. As per Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the team has fired Mike Newquist.

The team hired Mike Newquist in August 2022; he was responsible for handling the roles of senior vice president and chief operating officer. This comes just days after Mark Davis took the NFL by storm as he decided to fire head coach Josh McDaniels and offensive coordinator David Ziegler.

Antonio Pierce, who was the linebackers coach for the Raiders, is now the interim head coach of the team. At this point, the Raiders are attempting to do everything in their power to sail as smoothly as they can through the remainder of the 2023–24 NFL season. It will not be surprising to see a few roster changes on the team in the offseason, especially at the quarterback position.

It is unlikely that Mike Newquist’s dismissal was related to the team’s performance this season; however, it shows the direction in which Mark Davis is heading. The owner has become tired of the dysfunction within his organization and is making significant changes at the top.

The Raiders have won 3 games and lost 5 so far this season. The team has changed six head coaches since Mark Davis took over in 2011. In 2021, Jon Gruden resigned from his role as head coach in the aftermath of the homophobic and misogynistic emails written by him.

The most absurd move by the team was when they fired Rich Bisaccia, who was appointed interim HC following the departure of Gruden. The Raiders went 7-5 under his tenure and managed to make the playoffs that season.
