NFL sends stern ‘significant discipline’ warning to teams for violating league’s alcohol policy following Todd Downing’s DUI arrest
Todd Downing
The NFL has always had rules and policies regarding alcohol consumption by the players, coaches, staff, and club personnel on match day. Though these rules were not being taken seriously by some people and the league decided to double down on the strictness of the policies.
Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing was arrested recently for driving under the influence after the Titans won against the Packers. The timing of the arrest reflected that Downing had just left the Packers stadium and landed in Nashville.
This indicated that Downing may have been drinking during the flight from Green Bay to Nashville. The League was clearly disappointed by this arrest. And with reference to that, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent out a statement warning everyone that the league will resort to ‘significant discipline’ for violating the league’s longstanding policy prohibiting alcohol at team facilities and while traveling on team planes and buses.
According to the new statement by the NFL, the league reminded all the teams of the serious implications of consuming alcohol during the match-day and how it can lead to stricter actions by the league if caught.

Titans OC Todd Downing was charged with DUI and Speeding
Todd Downing took the after-match celebrations a bit too far when he was caught driving under the influence in Nashville. Downing was arrested at around 4:30 am by the Tennessee Highway Police and later released at 7:00 am through bail.
It is believed that Downing traveled with the team from Green Bay at around midnight and landed in Nashville at approximately 2:00 am and the Titans OC was stopped by the police at 2:30 am.
The NFL is currently in contact with the Titans’ management regarding the situation with Todd Downing. All the players, coaches, and club personnel are subject to potential discipline if found guilty.
The Titans have yet to comment regarding the situation. After the news went viral, many people also compared this situation to the Commanders’ celebration after defeating the Eagles.
The Titans currently lead their division with a record of 7-3 and are looking forward to winning their division and making a decent run in the NFL playoffs.
