The Super Bowl is the biggest game of the football season, between the champions of the NFC and AFC divisions. It happened to be the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs last season. The Chiefs came out on top after an exhilarating contest by a 38-35 margin, but the quality of the football wasn’t the only thing that caught everyone’s eye during the game.

The State Farm stadium in Arizona hosted Super Bowl LVII, but it failed to provide players with the perfect pitch as is expected on the grandest of nights. Footballers from both sides were seen struggling throughout the game as they slipped multiple times. After it became evident that the standard wasn’t up to par, the NFL has now unofficially come out with a shocking excuse of their own.

The league tried to shed light on their fault by claiming that the players did not wear the appropriate cleats to deal with the surface. The excuse came out of the blue. It is because the gridiron was in a wretched condition after the game had been completed, clearly showing that it wasn’t at its best, irrespective of what footwear the players had worn.

The issue should not have arisen in the first place for any National Football League game, especially when the game being played is the Super Bowl. Nothing has been officially clarified so far, what actually transpired at the stadium before the game in regards to the condition of the pitch.

The slippery field also provided the Philadelphia Eagles with an added disadvantage to deal with. Their defenders slipped and failed to grab hold of the offensive players for the Chiefs. Most recently, Eagles’ defensive end Brandon Graham came down hard on the condition of the gridiron. He claimed that the Chiefs players got extremely lucky because the conditions favored them.

To justify his stance, Brandon Graham also pinpointed one particular play where Josh Sweat slipped while making a grab on Mahomes during the first drive. However, the defender did not want to use this as an excuse for their defeat, giving the Chiefs their due credit for coming out on top. In the future, the league should keep a stern eye on the playing conditions used during a game of this importance in order to eradicate such unnecessary issues.
