When it comes to basketball, LeBron James is known as the best player of this generation, but if you ask him, he would say it’s Stephen Curry who deserves the high praise as he singlehandedly transformed the NBA. And just like Curry, James believes the NFL also has a player who is writing history at the moment.
Despite being called the NBA legend, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar knows the level of influence Curry has had on both the basketball court and the fans. And if there’s a player who carries the same level of stardom and influence in the NFL, it’s Patrick Mahomes.
In the new podcast of James and J.J. Redick, Mind the Game Pod, the basketball stars got into the discussion on Curry’s impact on the NBA. Although the podcast is said to be solely dedicated to basketball, an elite like the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback stands as an exception.
In Curry’s discussion, James drew an interesting and applauding comparison between the NBA and the NFL superstars: Curry and Mahomes. The Lakers’ star claimed the way the NBA point guard makes his opponents feel on the court is exactly the way Mahomes’ opposing team feels on the football field.
I believe in '08/09, whenever that little light-skinned f***** came in the league, he [Steph Curry] changed that whole narrative. He single-handedly changed the 'no lead is safe--It's like Pat Mahomes right now.said James while speaking highly of Curry.
LeBron James and Patrick Mahomes’ mutual moment of admiration at Courtside
The NBA legend and the NFL’s elite quarterback share a great bond with mutual respect for one another. Around a year ago, they were seen sharing a moment of admiration during the Lakers’ victory over the Dallas Mavericks by 111-108.
At the courtside, the Lakers’ star said to the Chiefs’ star, “You know what is playing with a f***ed up ankle, huh?” He was referring to the epic playoffs of the 2022-23 NFL season, where the Chiefs won their third Super Bowl trophy.
Mahomes had sustained a bad ankle injury which everyone had thought would compromise the Super Bowl trophy. But the quarterback didn’t let it and though the injury got worse after a tackle in the big game, he led his team to a 10-point comeback resulting in the Chiefs’ nominal Super Bowl victory.
