“He was a donut shy of 260 pounds”: Leonard Fournette shows up for training camp completely OUT OF SHAPE & the coaches aren’t pleased

Leonard Fournette

Leonard Fournette seems to have enjoyed his offseason a little bit too much. The running back did something unusual by showing up to training camp overweight and out of shape. The former LSU RB weighs around 260 pounds this offseason, Playoff Lenny seems to have become Bulking Lenny. His coaches in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were not impressed when they saw him play in the training camp.

Fournette is listed as weighing 228 pounds but he is now 32 pounds over his listed weight. Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times states that the running back is much above his weight and he has drawn the attention of all his coaches and most likely even Tom Brady.

“Coaches were NOT HAPPY”: Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaches were not happy with Leonard Fournette’s fitness levels

Stroud spoke about Fournette’s shape, “The last time we saw Leonard Fournette he was about a donut shy of 260. He certainly didn’t look like a guy who could play every down. Coaches were not happy, and that’s an understatement when he didn’t participate in the OTAs, but then he shows up at the mandatory minicamp weighing damn near 260. That’s not a good sign for a guy that you just spent a three-year contract on,” Stroud concludes.

The Buccaneers recently offered a contract extension to Fournette. They weren’t as inclined to offer him enough to come back until Tom Brady called up the front office and asked them to do something about his contract.

This year, the Tampa Bay Bucs have new running backs in the building as well. A third-round draft pick in Rachaad White and they have three RBs in Ke’Shawn Vaughn, Giovani Bernard, and Kenjon Barner on the roster. Though Leonard Fournette has been a top contributor to the Bucs offense in the last two years, he played in a total of 14 games last season and recorded 812 yards with 8 TDs.

This season Fournette may end up taking more time to get into shape than usual and will need the help of other backup RBs on his team so that he does not get gassed out.
