The Detroit Lions had a winning season for a change as they went 9-8 this year compared to last year’s three wins. Head coach Dan Campbell has done an excellent job of reinventing the team and turning their game around. They went from the worst team in the league to almost making the playoffs.

While Campbell’s methods are quite unorthodox, they seem to work and the team hangs on to every word that comes out of their coach’s mouth. His locker room speeches during the entire season have been viral.

Midway through the Lions-Packers game, Dan Campbell was informed by a reporter that the Seattle Seahawks have won their matchup and he said, “We don’t want them to go [to the playoffs]. So, that’s our motivation.” He was a man of his word as the Loins defeated the Packers 20-16 and thwarted Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ plan to make it to the postseason.

After the Lions won their final game of the season and finished with a winning record, Dan Campbell delivered a strong and emotional locker room speech that hyped up the players as well as fans. “To do what you guys did, it shows the character of this team and what you’re about,” Campbell started off. “We didn’t doubt it at all. Coaches didn’t doubt it at all. You guys didn’t doubt it. You came out there and you respected it and did that — you earned your respect today.”

Campbell, with teary eyes, said he couldn’t be more proud of the team and added that this is a special group. “And, by the way, this is just the beginning. This is just the beginning. All right, because now the idea will be down the road that all roads go through Detroit. I couldn’t be more proud. I’m serious, man. I’m just telling you right now, I’m going to drink some beer tonight,” Campbell continued.

He went on to present two game balls. The first one he presented to running back Jamaal Williams. The 27-year-old running back rushed for over 100 yards and broke the Lions’ single-season touchdown record with 17, surpassing Barry Sanders (16 TDs). Williams is also the 2022 NFL rushing touchdown leader. The former Green Bay Packers said he dedicates this game to his great-grandfather who died last week. He said, “I’m so proud of y’all. I’m so proud of the way you work, and I’m so grateful to be on this team with y’all.”

The second game ball was presented to Detroit Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp, who said she is the best owner in the league and said that she thinks about the players all the time and devotes every resource to the team. He ended his speech by saying he was proud of the team and “it’s hard for it to end this way but man it is pretty gratifying to know we had a winning season.”
