“Poverty franchise!” – Lions hanging NFC North division banner at Ford Field just weeks before the playoffs has NFL fans trolling the 93-year-old franchise
Lions hoisted a banner after winning the division title (L- Lions/ X) and Jared Goff (R- Imago)
Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions are currently preparing for their final game of the 2023 regular season against their rivals Minnesota Vikings. The Lions have already clinched a playoff spot after winning the NFC North division for the first time in the franchise’s history.
After winning the division title, the Lions decided to celebrate it by hanging a banner at Ford Field commemorating the season. The new banner was hoisted right next to another banner dedicated to their 3 previous division titles, which they won when they were part of the now-defunct NFC Central.
Before this season, the Lions haven’t won anything meaningful in nearly three decades. So, naturally, they wanted to celebrate their first achievement in Dan Campbell’s era. But, fans weren’t amused by the Lions’ decision to hang a banner for winning a division title.
However, the Lions are a team that hasn’t even reached a Super Bowl game in history. The only 2 banners they have at the Ford Field are for 4 division titles they have in 93 years.
The Lions are still in the hunt for the No.2 seed, which would better their shot at a home conference game. Jared Goff and the Detroit-based football team are scheduled to face the Vikings in their final regular season game.
To win the NFC’s No.2 seed, the Lions have to win their week 18 game against the Vikings and have to hope for the Dallas Cowboys to beat the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles to lose to the New York Giants. Anyhow, even if the Lions didn’t win the No.2 seed, they would still be guaranteed at least one home playoff game as the NFC North division winners.
Social media reacts to Lions hanging banner for division title
NFL fans on social media heavily trolled the Detroit Lions for celebrating the NFC North division title by hanging a banner at the Ford Field.
Fans started sharing hilarious memes about how the Lions haven’t been able to even win a conference game in their history. Check out some of the reactions attached below.
The Lions have always been underperforming on the field. But, under their head coach Dan Campbell, they have been able to play dominant football in the last couple of years.
Currently, they are one of the favorites to win the championship. But they have to go through some tough opponents to even reach the big game. Hopefully, the Lions will be able to shut down the trolls by hoisting a banner for winning the Super Bowl soon.
