Dan Campbell finally addressed whether he would take over the reins at Texas A&M (Aggies). The college football juggernauts recently got rid of Jimbo Fisher after six seasons and are on the hunt for a suitable replacement.

What is better than a former student becoming the coach of your football team? On top of that, Campbell was part of the football team from 1995 to 1998, in which they played in the Sugar Bowl and the Cotton Bowl. So there’s a pedigree there, and he understands the institute’s culture.

Despite the appeal of managing his old school, Campbell is not ready to up and leave the Detroit Lions in the middle of the season. The 47-year-old has all the respect in the world for Aggies, but right now the motor city needs him.

I know some people there, and I love my school. That's my alma mater, and I want to do anything I can to help them but coach them. So, and I'll do that.

Dan Campbell wants the Aggies to hire someone who can connect with the athletes

There’s one aspect of Dan Campbell that sets him apart from most coaches in the NFL. It’s his gung-ho nature and wearing his heart on his sleeves. During matchdays, one can witness him pacing and shouting at the touchline nonstop. Not to forget the post-game locker room speeches that are bound to make any football fan root for him.

That’s the kind of individual the Super Bowl-winning tight end wants his school to hire as their next head coach. It would be easier for Aggies if he just said yes and could have earned more than his current $4 million a year. They did pay Fisher $76 million to not coach the team as per ESPN.com.

Then again, money doesn’t really entice the former New York Giants stalwart. He advised them to find someone who has “strong leadership” skills.

Certainly, the hire is important, and it needs to be somebody who understands the state of Texas. [They] understand the history of Texas A&M and can communicate with young people and develop them.

Back to Detroit, where he has been waving the magic wand and winning games left, right, and center. Despite a shaky first year, he has managed to turn things around and is genuinely looking like a team to be feared.

Since November last year, the Lions have won 15 games and lost just four. They currently lead the NFC North with a 7-2 record and don’t show signs of stopping. Their next three games are against divisional rivals, in which they face the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears twice, starting with welcoming the Bears at Ford Field.
