Alex Anzalone, the linebacker for the Detroit Lions, is having a tough time. His parents are reportedly stuck in conflict-ridden Israel as war has broken out between the nation and Hamas, the Palestinian Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist group. Anzalone has reportedly made a plea to US President Joe Biden to seek a possible outcome. The player took the issue to Twitter and wrote, “My parents are in this group. Please get my parents home… @POTUS.”

Sal and Judy Anzalone, parents of Alex Anzalone, are part of the 53-person group from First Naples Church in Naples, Florida. The group is now looking for a way to come back to the US amid the chaos.

According to a report by the Detroit News, the group is scheduled to leave the country from Tel Aviv on Thursday. The player who performed brilliantly against the Carolina Panthers on the turf addressed his concern after the game. “It’s hard,” Anzalone said. “(It’s) really all I’ve been thinking about.”

However, the linebacker can have a sigh of relief as Alan Brumback, the pastor of the Church, who is on the trip with the group, posted an update on the Facebook page of the church. In his post, the pastor described their circumstances in Israel. The pastor wrote, “We are doing good at our hotel in Jerusalem. Continue to pray for Israel and for this to be resolved as peacefully and quickly as possible.

The issue has now become one of the central talking points in the US. Republican congressman joined a debating session and said, “I have 53 members of my constituency who are in Jerusalem right now. They are obviously panicked, trying to find their way to return to America.”
