The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration was cut short when Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown scored the first touchdown of the 2023 NFL season. A performance capped off by a narrow victory on the day for the Lions.
Some would say it was coming because of the situations that transpired before the game. For different reasons, the Chiefs lost two key players, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones. However, the analysts favored the Patrick Mahomes-led side over the NFC minnows. Unfortunately, a horrible showing from Kadarius Toney and a weakened defensive line cost them the game.
However, take nothing away from the Lions, as they came to Arrowhead with only one goal in mind and backed up their head coach Dan Campbell’s words. It started with quarterback Jared Goff searching for a new running back, David Montgomery. But realizing he wouldn’t make it, Goff found his playmaker, who had recorded 106 catches for 1,161 yards.
The play almost didn’t happen, but Dan Campbell’s brilliance brought it to fruition. A fake punt near the Lions 14-yard line threw the Chiefs off course. Then a Jalen Reeves-Maybin quick snap at the 3rd-yard line gave the Detriot side momentum. Next, Amon-Ra St. Brown burst past, scoring on a 91-yard touchdown drive. As the stadium went almost silent after the setback, what happened on television caught the attention of social media users. NBC was the broadcaster for Thursday’s game, and they accidentally cut St. Brown’s celebration short.

In the end, the Detroit Lions bagged their first prime-time victory in a long time. They beat the Chiefs 20-21 and look forward to meeting the Seattle Seahawks on September 17. Lions could surprise plenty of fans this year with a much better team than the previous year.
