In a shocking turn of events, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to trade one of their most dependable defensive options, L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans weeks after putting the franchise tag on him. The cornerback had a major role in the success of the Chiefs last season.
The trade is still not completed as the cornerback awaits the medical test. If the CB successfully passes the medical test, then he will be receiving a mammoth contract from the Titans. As per sources, the Tennessee team is willing to pay $76 million for a four-year deal.
Since the beginning of the 2024 offseason, multiple teams have shown interest in L’Jarius Sneed. The Philadelphia Eagles had the preliminary interest, and it was almost sure that the Chiefs would trade the CB. However, the Chiefs put a franchise tag on him. The ”tag’ valued him at $19.4 million.
However, there were some issues regarding the contract. Sneed wanted a contract worth $20 million. Hence, for mutual interests, both parties agreed to the trade. The Chiefs decided to trade Sneed to the Titans and the CB did not have a point to disagree.
For the next season, the Titans are doing all the things they could do to strengthen the team. First, they secured running back Tony Pollard from the Dallas Cowboys, and now, by securing Sneed, the team managed to strengthen their defense. Last season, Sneed made 78 total tackles comprising 18 assisted and 60 solos. The CB also registered two interceptions.
Fans left shocked by L’Jarius Sneed’s trade
After the news broke out, the netizens were a bit surprised with the Chiefs making the decision. Last season, the Chiefs had a defensive success last year. The offense did not have much role to play, and the defense stood up. That was the reason the fans thought they would keep the Sneed in the team.
However, not everything was right between the two. Ahead of the franchise tag, Sneed had openly demanded to ‘pay him’.
Pay me. Pay me, pay me. That's what I've got to say — pay me.Sneed said last month on the Up and Adams show
Following the recent deal, the fans commented on X. Check out some of the comments they made.
There’s no doubt that the Kansas City team are still much in the discussion to win the upcoming season. However, with Sneed now joining the Titans, Andy Reid must be busy doing new permutations and combinations.
