Jayden Daniels had a slow start during the LSU Tigers Pro Day. However, eventually, he got into the groove and threw a couple of dimes and accurate deep balls. After all the drills were wrapped up, LSU head coach Brian Kelly met with the press. He discussed the Heisman Trophy winner’s future destination.
Kelly pointed out that the 23-year-old would settle in the NFL effortlessly despite raising eyebrows for not possessing a big build like Caleb Williams or Michael Penix Jr. This is what Kelly said:
He's going to be so committed to taking care of himself that you're not going to have to worry about size. Lamar (Jackson has) done a pretty good job with his size. (Patrick) Mahomes, I wouldn't consider him a giant.Brian Kelly via media interview
The conversation went fine until Kelly accidentally let Daniels’ possible NFL team slip. It is a sentiment that former Commanders coach Ron Rivera upheld. Kelly continued:
He's going to get the ball out to his playmakers and make plays for Washington.Brian Kelly via media interview
Kelly’s statement raised eyebrows across the NFL. If it was a tease or Insider Information, no one knows. Hopefully, the NFL draft will happen soon, and one can find out if Kelly predicted it correctly.
Could the Washington Commanders draft Jayden Daniels?
By now, everyone knows Chichago will use their first pick to draft a quarterback (possibly Williams). The Washington Commanders hold the second pick, which divides them between Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye.
The new Commanders’ head coach, Dan Quinn, prefers the waiting game. Quinn referenced the tape of the player as key in choosing their No. 2 pick, as per Yahoo Sports.
As Brian Kelly mentioned, Jayden Daniels may not be the biggest guy in the field, but he can make a difference. Daniels is only one of a handful of dual-threat quarterbacks in the lineup. Speaking with the NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, who asked Daniels what makes him the best quarterback in the draft. Check out what he replied in the below tweet.
Daniels definitely did the talking on the field during the 2023 season. From 13 games, he registered 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He had a completion rate of 72.2%. Not only that, he ran for an additional 1,134 yards, scoring ten touchdowns. The Commanders made what appeared to be the obvious choice for the moment. They even traded away last season’s starter, Sam Howell, to the Seattle Seahawks.
