Jayden Daniels, the QB for the LSU Tigers, had a memorable night against the Florida Gators. He had a 600-yard game with three passing and two rushing touchdowns. In addition to this, the QB became the first player in FBS history to record 372 passing yards and 234 rushing yards.
However, the game will be remembered for his elegant Heisman celebration with the backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. The QB had a clutch moment after he retook the lead from the Gators with a 51-yard touchdown run. Daniels then celebrated with the backup QB, sparking conversations on the Internet.
A small video that depicted his celebration went viral on X. With the help of his brilliant performance, the Tigers moved on to the 7-3 record after ten games.
Daniels seemed humble after breaking the FBS record on Saturday night college football. In the post-match conversation with the press, the quarterback gave all his flowers to his teammates. The QB also remembered his roots as a college football player.
It means a lot, I thank God for everything, the talent that he gave me. I thank my O-line. I can’t do this without them at all. It’s just who I was as a young kid, backyard, playing in the streets, so I came out on the football field just having fun.
Jayden Daniels for the Heisman trophy?
Yesterday’s performance by Daniels has triggered talk about his Heisman trophy nomination for this year. It was almost an out-of-the-world performance for the QB who was injured a week ago. During the game against Alabama, he had a concussion and missed practices before the Gators game.
Considering his QB’s exploits this season, LSU’s coach Brian Kelly believes that Daniels is the hot favorite for the Heisman trophy this year.
He can run. He's a phenomenal athlete and the best quarterback in the country. I've seen them all. He's the best player. You can say whatever you want about we're 7-3 and whoever else is undefeated, that doesn't mean anything. What matters is who's the best player, and he's the best player.
Kelly is not a person to give a lot of importance to personal awards, but the performance of Daniels compelled him to have a stance in this much-discussed debate. Daniels so far has managed 2,792 passing yards in 10 games, complimented by 684 rushing yards.
