It has been three years since Tom Brady left New England to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then, Brady has won a Super Bowl, two NFC South Division titles, and retired from the sport. Meanwhile, Bill Belichick and the Patriots haven’t won anything yet since Brady’s departure. Mac Jones, who was drafted by the Pats in the 2021 draft to replace Brady, is struggling in New England. Amidst this situation, Jones has privately blasted his offensive weapons, according to reports.
According to Fox Sports reporter Henry McKenna, sources close to Mac Jones recently revealed that the Patriots quarterback is not happy with the lack of offensive weapons. “No matter how good of a cook you are, you cannot make garbage taste good,” Jones reportedly said.
While Jones hasn’t performed at a high level in the ongoing season so far, the former Pro Bowl QB thinks his teammates have something to do with it. Jones seems to believe general manager Bill Belichick is not building around him and helping with some great weapons.
Mac Jones has struggled a lot this season as he only registered 1,008 passing yards and 5 passing touchdowns through the first 5 weeks of the 2023 NFL season. Furthermore, he has also thrown more interceptions (6) than touchdown passes (5). He has been benched twice in the last two weeks as the Pats offense struggled to put up points on the board.
In the last two games, the Patriots have been outscored 72-3 by their opponents. On Sunday, the Patriots were shut down by the New Orleans Saints in a humiliating fashion. As a result, Jones and the Patriots have an abysmal record of 1-4 and are currently looking like the worst team in the NFL.
Mac Jones’ time is running out in New England
The Alabama quarterback Mac Jones was drafted by the Patriots to fill the shoes of the legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Jones had a solid rookie year, but since then, his career has been on a downward spiral.

In his second year in the league, there was a massive dip in his production. But many people gave him a pass since he was working with a defensive-minded offensive coordinator.
And now Jones has had a poor start in his third year in the league. Especially in the last two weeks, Jones has thrown for just 260 yards and no touchdowns while throwing four interceptions. Many fans are already calling for the New England Patriots to bench Jones in favor of Bailey Zappe. And Bill Belichick wouldn’t be very patient if Jones kept performing like this.
