Odell Beckham Jr. recently signed a huge one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens worth up to $18 million in free agency. Many people were shocked by the Ravens giving a lot of money to OBJ at this point of his career, but some recent reports suggest that the Ravens overpaid Beckham Jr. to make Lamar Jackson happy amidst the QB’s contract extension fiasco.
According to reports, Lamar Jackson demanded the Ravens to sign both Odell Beckham Jr. and the Arizona Cardinals star wideout DeAndre Hopkins and then they could talk about Jackson signing a new contract. However, the Ravens told the quarterback that they can’t afford to sign both star wide receivers so they’ll only target the free-agent wide receiver OBJ.
Following the signing, Beckham Jr. was spotted with the former league MVP QB in the LIV nightclub. It seemed like Lamar Jackson was happy with the addition of an elite pass catcher, and many people thought Odell signed with the Ravens after getting the assurance that Jackson would stay in Baltimore. But recently, the 3-time Pro Bowler revealed that he got no such assurance from the Ravens’ front office.
“The goal was to come here and have that possibility to play with him,” Beckham said during his introductory press conference on Thursday. “Lamar, if you’re watching, I would love to get to work with you.”
Marcellus Wiley bashes Odell Beckham Jr. for chasing money

After Odell Beckham Jr. revealed that he didn’t get any assurance from the Ravens about Lamar Jackson being the starting QB in the 2023 season, it became clear that OBJ signed with the Ravens for the huge contract and the former Buffalo Bills defensive end Marcellus Wiley shared his opinion on players chasing money.
“Players have to hide their pursuit for the money, their pursuit to get paid, it’s like if you say it if you show it then it turns off the organization and more importantly it turns off the fan base,” said Wiley during a recent episode of his show Not Shut Up.
“Odell Beckham is obviously in the pursuit of that he had a price and he wanted the team to meet it, like Dallas before, right? And there were conversations with the Jets, etc. But Odell Beckham Jr. Just proved to you what we call PPP, price, place, and players,” said Marcellus Wiley.
By PPP, Wiley explains that most players when they are shopping for the teams in free agency will look for the best price first and the place they would be playing and then the players they would be playing with.
And by signing an $18 million contract despite having no assurance that Lamar Jackson will be the QB, the former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has done exactly what Wiley is talking about.
