Brock Purdy has been the most hyped QB in the NFL currently. The 49ers rookie made his full-game debut against the Tom Brady-led Bucs and defeated them. Since then, he’s been compared to the greatest QB of all time as everyone has high expectations of him.
Although Purdy has played decently since taking over the QB role due to injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, there are chances that he could falter in high-pressure playoff games.
The 23-year-old hopes to become the first rookie QB to win in a playoff game since Russell Wilson performed the feat in 2013 with the Seattle Seahawks. Ironically, the 49ers will face the Seahawks in their first game of the playoffs.
There’s a lot of pressure on the young man’s shoulders and recent expectations from NFL analyst Marcus Spears may prove to be a burden for the 49ers QB. Marcus Spears recently featured on ESPN’s First Take and gave his take on which QB will have the best playoff debut this season. Spears answered Brock Purdy immediately after hearing the question and even had a reason to back his statement up.
Spears believes that Purdy is surrounded by a system where he just needs to play by the books to get a win for the team and run up his stats. The 49ers squad is stacked with talent.

Marcus Spears expects Brock Purdy to have the best playoff debut

The 49ers rookie has great stats to back Marcus Spears’ statement. Brock Purdy has the highest QBR amongst the players making their debut in the playoffs. He’s in contention with Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence, Daniel Jones, Geno Smith, and Skylar Thompson. Purdy will go up against Smith during the weekend for the playoffs and will have an added advantage due to their stacked offense.
“I do believe that Brock Purdy and his ability and what they doing offensively with coach Kyle Shanahan, he’s going to push the ball down the filed a bit more,” Marcus Spears stated on the First Take. “He’s in a situation, where all you have to do is facilitate as a point guard.”
Spears also pointed out that Purdy will be surrounded by unreal talents like Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk who can wreak havoc on defenses with their speed and mobility.
The 49ers are hoping to make a playoffs push with Brock Purdy as their main man. However, it’s not evident if he’ll be able to take on the pressure like the great QB he’s been compared to recently.
