The Las Vegas Raiders have made a surprising decision to part ways with their key coaching staff and general manager at this juncture in the season. Owner Mark Davis fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler late on Tuesday night after the team’s disappointing 3-5 record this season. Offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi was also fired.

The announcement came just a day after the Raiders lost to the Detroit Lions, a game in which the team’s quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo failed to throw the ball accurately to Davante Adams on multiple occasions. On two vital throws, if the QB had connected with Adams, the Raiders would have won the game as the wideout had a clear path to the redzone.

While Josh McDaniels’ job was on the line, nobody had anticipated Mark Davis to make this move mid-season. However, a closer look at the owner’s reaction to his coach’s play calls sends the message that maybe this firing was not that surprising after all.

Josh McDaniels has been getting on Mark Davis’ nerves for quite sometime

In the Raiders week 5 MNF matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Allegiant Stadium, owner Mark Davis was watching his team play from the stands with his wife by his side. In the second quarter of the game when the Raiders were on offense and struggled to get a first down, the owner was visibly upset.

Despite the Raiders being up 10-3 against the Packers, Davis was not happy with the manner in which his offense was playing that night. He was seen nodding his head in anger and frustration and immediately after appeared to abuse his head coach by calling him an “assh*le.”

Mark Davis would have probably fired Josh McDaniels that night if he had not managed to lead the Raiders to a 17-13 victory against the Packers. However, little did the owner know that it would be downhill from there as the team went on to lose 2 out of their next 3 games.
