Aaron Rodgers declared almost a month ago that his time with the Green Bay Packers is done and he’d like a move away from the team that gave him everything. Rodgers established himself as one of the greatest QBs of all time and created an immeasurable legacy with the team.
After spending 18 years with the team, A-Rod has finally decided to make a move to the New York Jets. Something that he admitted on the Pat McAfee Show. Although, the negotiations between the Jets and the Packers are currently ongoing, it feels like they have reached a stalemate.
It is believed that both teams are working towards a favorable trade for Rodgers. However, they can’t come to a favorable solution yet. Many speculate that the Packers are asking for an unreasonable amount of draft picks to part ways with the Super Bowl winner.
Although the deal is most likely to get completed in the coming weeks, there has been no official confirmation regarding it. Packers president Mark Murphy was recently asked about an update on the Rodgers situation. Murphy declined to share any news about it and was ‘mum’ about the whole trade.
“I can’t really get into that,” Mark Murphy said, via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “I know Brian and Joe have been talking.” The new update by Murphy was disheartening for all the Aaron Rodgers fans who want to see his trade get completed immediately.
The Packers will hope to complete the Aaron Rodgers trade before the NFL draft
The 2023 NFL draft is around the corner and the Packers are eagerly waiting for it. It is speculated that the Green Bay-based team will get multiple draft picks for Aaron Rodgers. They will require all those picks as the Packers are clearly lacking squad depth this season.
Although their QB position is cemented with Jordan Love, they won’t have the much-needed ammunition to supply him with. WR Allen Lazard has recently moved to the Jets and TE Robert Tonyan has moved to the Bears.
The free agency is also getting thinner day by day. Therefore, the only hope the Packers currently have is through the NFL draft. If the Aaron Rodgers deal can be completed before the draft, then the Packers can surely draft the much-needed ammunition for Jordan Love.
