The veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are entering the 2023 NFL season with massive hype built around them. Many people consider them a Super Bowl contender in the upcoming season. But the Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy would love it if the Jets failed to live up to their massive hype.
Speaking in a recent episode of 97.3 The Game radio show, Murphy said, “Honestly, I hope everything goes well and Aaron plays 65% (of the Jets’ total snaps). But it would be really good if the Jets have a bad year…because (we’d have) a very high pick.”
As a part of the trade, the Packers would get the Jets’ 2024 1st rounder if Aaron Rodgers played 65 or more percent of the Jets’ total snaps. And it would be better if the Jets had a bad record.
Murphy acknowledged that his motivations are a bit funny, but that’s just the trade they made back in April. “It is funny the motivations that you have,” Murphy said. “That’s the reality. That was the trade that was made and I think it made sense.”
Rodgers would certainly play more than 65% of the Jets’ total snaps in the 2023 season if he stayed healthy. So the Packers are almost guaranteed to get the Jets‘ 1st round pick in next year’s draft. That’s why Mark Murphy and millions of Packers fans are praying for the downfall of the New York-based football team.

Aaron Rodgers was seen cheering Zach Wilson during the Jets preseason game
On Thursday, the NY Jets went against the Cleveland Browns in the NFL’s annual Hall Of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. During the preseason game, Aaron Rodgers witnessed the action from the sidelines while Zach Wilson took center stage.
Wilson threw a 57-yard bomb to wide receiver Malik Taylor from his own endzone that shocked a lot of people. Rodgers, who was in a perfect position to witness the remarkable throw got excited and celebrated the completion with a fist pump.
Ever since Rodgers joined the Jets as their starting QB back in April, he has been a great mentor for Zach Wilson. The former 2nd overall pick is trying to win back the starting QB job in New York.
But he’ll have to wait for the next two seasons while Rodgers tried to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl victory. Rodgers is expected to play for two seasons in New York. Wilson might take over the starting QB job after Rodgers’ departure.
