Green Bay Packers President, Mark Murphy might just have made a big premature announcement about the popular HBO show, Hard Knocks’ newest season. The show is reportedly struggling to get a team this season, on whom they would base their documentary during the training camp, with several franchises not willing to feature.

Murphy in his monthly column, spoke about how he is anxiously waiting to see the New York Jets featured on the television series, although no official announcement has been made regarding the choice of team for the upcoming season. The Packers let longtime quarterback Aaron Rodgers make the move to New York in what has been one of the biggest trades of the offseason so far.

Murphy’s anxiousness is not only due to Rodgers’ presence within the Jets’ setup but due to the fact that as many as eight former Packers players will be in action for the Jets this season. The notable players to have made the switch this season are wide receiver, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, and safety Adrian Amos, all of whom joined after Rodgers’ trade.

A team failing to qualify for the playoffs twice in a row is in the running to be chosen for the popular show. Murphy identified that the Jets satisfy this criterion, also indicating the fact that they would be selected for this year’s Hard Knocks show.

“Hard Knocks is a great show and gives fans an inside look at a team’s training camp. It also provides good publicity for the team. The downside is that it can be a distraction and teams are concerned that other teams can learn information from the show. The best thing to do if you don’t want to be on Hard Knocks is to make the playoffs every year,” Murphy wrote on the Packers’ official website.

“The league (and HBO) can only require a team to appear on Hard Knocks if they have failed to make the playoffs two years in a row. I’m anxious to see the Jets and the many ex-Packers on Hard Knocks this summer – should be very entertaining.”

The Jets are among the four teams in the reckoning to feature in the show this season alongside the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and New Orleans Saints. Barring the Commanders, the other three teams have made it very clear that they are least interested to do so. For the time being, fans can only hope for an official announcement despite the slight hint that Murphy seems to have given through his column.
