On Saturday night, the No.4 ranked Florida State Seminoles squared off against the No.16 ranked Duke Blue Devils in an AP Top 25 showdown. In the highly-anticipated game between two top teams, the FSU tight end Markeston Douglas showed off his catching ability by making an impressive “butt catch” against the Blue Devils.
During the first quarter of the game, FSU was backed inside their own 20-yard line and was trying to march down the field to put some points on the board. Florida State QB Jordan Travis, who took the snap from the shotgun position targeted his tight end Markeston Douglas in a short pass. The ball hit the hands of the tight end who couldn’t hold the ball in his hands.
When it seemed like the pass was going to be incomplete, Douglas managed to hold the ball using his butt and broke a couple of tackles to make the first down for the Seminoles. This all happened in seconds and resulted in an important first down for Florida State. Checkout the footage attached below.
Nonetheless, Markeston Douglas only had 2 catches in the game for 18 yards. Still, FSU managed to secure a 38-20 victory against the Duke Blue Devils and remains undefeated in the ongoing college football season.
Next, they are scheduled to go against the unranked Wake Forest team next weekend. They would be looking to secure another victory against Wake Forest and remain in contention for college football playoffs.
Florida State Seminoles team competing for championship
Back in 2020, Mike Norvell took over a dismantled Florida State team as their head coach. When he took over the team, the Seminoles were coming off two consecutive losses for the first time since the 1970s.
Even in his first season as the head coach, Mike Norvell and the Seminoles suffered the first loss against an FCS opponent in the history of their program, as they fell to Jacksonville State at home. Many predicted Norvell wouldn’t last long with the program, but he has turned around FSU in a remarkable way.
Now, in his 4th year as the Florida State head coach, Norvell and the Seminoles remain undefeated and are competing for the college football national championship for the first time in almost a decade.
Mike Norvell credits his players, team administration, fans, and the entire coaching staff for the impressive turnaround within 4 years. He is looking to ice the impressive run by winning a national championship title with this team.
