On Saturday, the No.17 ranked Oklahoma Sooners led by star quarterback Dillon Gabriel took on the West Virginia Mountaineers in a Big 12 showdown. Tensions were running high in the game between the two conference rivals, which led to a massive brawl breaking out between both teams’ players.

During the 4th quarter of the game, the Sooners had a 25-point lead and were trying to make it a 4-possession game. In the last quarter of the game, Gabriel connected with his wide receiver Drake Stoops for a 9-yard touchdown. As Stoops was completing his catch, he was hard hit by West Virginia’s defensive back Anthony Wilson.

Seconds after the touchdown catch, lights in the stadium went out and a huge brawl broke out. Both teams’ players were throwing fists and fighting while the referees tried to take control of the situation by separating both teams. As a result of the brawl, Oklahoma’s McKade Mettauer got hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and was ejected from the game.

The clip of the brawl was shared on social media by Fox Sports’ official account, which went viral. The brief video accumulated more than 63k views within hours of posting. Check out the footage of the incident attached below.

Nonetheless, the West Virginia Mountaineers didn’t show the same fight on the field. They were battered by the Sooners, who comfortably ended up winning the game as the final scores read 59-20 in Oklahoma’s favor.

Oklahoma Sooners’ Dillon Gabriel had a remarkable game against West Virginia

The Oklahoma Sooners managed to gain an impressive victory against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday. In the game, the Sooners QB Dillon Gabriel had one of the best performances of his career.

Gabriel completed 23 of his 36 pass attempts for 423 yards and 5 touchdowns while throwing zero interceptions. Additionally, he also used his legs to acquire 50 more yards and 3 more touchdowns.

He had good help from his running back Gavin Sawchuck, who carried the football 22 times for 135 yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Furthermore, wide receiver Drake Stoops, the son of former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, had himself a feat on West Virginia’s defense as he caught 10 passes for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns while averaging 16.4 yards per reception.

As a result, the Sooners ended up winning the game in a dominant way. Oklahoma has 2 remaining games scheduled to finish their 2023 college football regular season. They will take on the BYU Cougars and the TCU Horned Frogs in their next two matchups.
