Matt Araiza has seen the biggest up-and-downs of his life even before his NFL career began. Araiza was a highly touted punter out of San Diego State University. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 6th round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He impressed a lot of people with an 82-yard punt during a preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, but it all went down from that point for Araiza.
The 22-year-old punter Matt Araiza was cut by the Bills a couple of weeks before the start of the 2022 regular season after a woman went public with sexual assault allegations against Araiza. The punter was accused of involving in a gang r*pe of a minor during his day as a punter for San Diego State University. While the claims were still under investigation, the Bills cut the punter due to massive public outrage.
Now, approximately 9 months after the allegations, investigations have uncovered new evidence which suggests that Matt Araiza wasn’t even present at the scene during the gruesome incident. Prosecutors determined that there is not enough evidence against Araiza and declined to file criminal charges against the punter. Araiza, however, still faces a civil lawsuit from the woman and is not looking to settle it outside the court.

After the prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against Matt Araiza, the Buffalo Bills punter recently did an interview with Tomi Lahren on Outkick show. He explained that the Bills knew the truth, but still had to cut him due to public outrage.
“I gave my attorney the greenlight to keep them in the loop and give them all of our witness statements, all of our evidence,” Araiza explained. “They knew the truth, but the accusations were strong enough that they had to cut me.”
Araiza went on to claim that he is not mad at the Bills for cutting him but still wishes things were handled a little differently. “I hold nothing against the Buffalo Bills, I wish things were handled differently,” Araiza continued. “But they did treat me with respect, which I appreciate.”
The highly talented punter is confident that he will get another shot in the NFL and is now just waiting for his name to be called by the Bills or any other team in the league. Matt Araiza had one of the strongest legs for a punter in recent times in college football history and if the cases against him are cleared, a lot of teams will surely try to sign the 6’1″ punter.
