“Looking to set the record straight,” Bills punter Matt Araiza issues a statement regarding SERIOUS allegations made against him
Matt Araiza issues statement on the lawsuit.
Buffalo Bills’ rookie punter Matt Araiza was kept out of the team’s final pre-season game following a civil lawsuit being filed which alleges his involvement in the rape of a minor last year while he was a student at the San Diego State University. Araiza who was drafted by the Bills in the 6th round of this year’s NFL draft issued a statement via his agent.
The lawsuit which is a national story now alleges that Araiza and two of his San Diego State Aztecs teammates gang-raped a 17-year-old minor at an off-campus Halloween party last year. When the allegations came to light the Buffalo Bills who faced the Carolina Panthers in their final pre-season game decided to keep Araiza out of the game. During the game, Araiza through his agent issued a statement.
Matt Araiza is looking to set the record straight regarding the rape allegations against him
Araiza said-“The facts of the incident are not what they are portrayed in the lawsuit or in the press,” Araiza said. “I look forward to quickly setting the record straight.”
Araiza needs to set the record straight soon and with caution for his sake as whatever he says can be used against him in a court of law. The lawsuit alleges that Araiza, who was 21 at the time, had sex with the then 17-year-old girl who was under the age of consent in California, at an off-campus party. It also states that Araiza intoxicated her and took her to a room where at least three other men including the two other men named in the suit repeatedly raped her.
Whatever Araiza’s truth is he has to come forward and explain it because of the seriousness of the accusation. Not only are the accusations serious but also criminal which can result in the Buffalo Bills taking drastic actions like cutting Araiza from their team as Araiza plays at one of the most volatile positions in the NFL and is easily replaceable if that’s what the Bills find is best in their own interest.
