Trouble brews for the New England Patriots as the team’s backup quarterback Matt Corral missed two training sessions ahead of the team’s encounter with the Philadelphia Eagles. The player might be suffering from mental health issues as he has a long-standing history of battling depression.

Corral missed two of the team’s recent training sessions in the Gillette stadium. He also did not show up to match discussions and team meetings. Till date, the team has yet to receive any official reason from him for his absence, and multiple media platforms claimed that the team is worried about his situation.

He just left the team. Let’s just make sure he’s OK. I don’t know if it’s mental health. I just know he kind of flaked out,” the source told The Spun. They also reported that the Patriots did not register him as a backup quarterback in the squad against the Eagles.

The team is unsure about the availability of the player. Hence, this season, they might stick with Bailey Zappe as the main backup for the starter Mac Jones

The mental health issues are not new for the quarterback Matt Corral. He has been under treatment for long. Corral also opened up about his depressive traits on multiple occasions earlier. He has a similarity with some other athletes who had to battle multiple mental health issues to shine in his career. Some of them failed to make a comeback. Bojan Krkic, who one considered a generational talent at Soccer Club Barcelona, failed to shine on the field due to his mental health issues.

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, the QB spoke about his depressive traits. He said, “I remember, it was August 18, I was in a depression my sophomore year of college. And I just didn’t understand why. I was still training, and it just felt like I was just going through the motions. It just felt like I was being stagnant. There was no purpose as to what I was doing.”

He further added, “I just remember crying on the couch before my flight going home and just wondering why the heck I’m feeling like this,” Corral said. “And I had that mindset of not taking no for an answer. That’s when my whole work ethic changed.”
