The Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is looking to get the best out of Jordan Love, who will be replacing Aaron Rodgers as their franchise quarterback. Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets by the Packers but it seems like LaFleur is still not over the Jets taking some of Green Bay’s best talent in the off-season.
During the Packers training camp, LaFleur sat down with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero for an interview. In the interview, Pelissero asked the Packers HC if he has been keeping with Rodgers and the Jets in HBO’s Hard Knocks show. LaFleur interrupted Pelissero and jokingly termed the Jets as the “Green Bay East.”
He nicknamed the Jets as Green Bay East since the New York-based football team took some of the best talents from the Packers camp along with Aaron Rodgers in the off-season. The Jets currently have eight former Packers players on their roster.
Nonetheless, LaFleur went on to give a serious answer to Pelissero’s question. “I think we have enough to worry about with the Green Bay Packers, but certainly a lot people I care about in that organization and on that staff,” LaFleur said on Thursday. “You always take account of what other teams are doing, especially guys you are close to in this league.”
Apart from Rodgers and 7 other former Packers players, LaFleur would be watching the show because of his best friend and the Jets head coach Robert Saleh. Matt LaFleur and Saleh rose through the ranks in the NFL at the same time and have been best friends. In fact, the Packers coach was the best man at Saleh’s wedding.
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are under immense pressure to succeed
Ever since the Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Packers in a blockbuster trade, the New York-based franchise is considered a Super Bowl contender by many experts. The Jets have a stacked roster filled with young and exciting talents all across the field. They were only missing stability at the quarterback position, which led to them trading for the veteran QB Rodgers in the 2023 off-season.
Now, everyone is expecting immediate success from Rodgers, and the Jets featuring on the HBO show Hard Knocks would add some more pressure to the Jets camp. However, Rodgers seems confident in the Jets roster and recently took a massive $35 million pay cut to free some cap space. If they could add more talent to their roster ahead of the 2023 season, it would help Rodgers to achieve his goal of winning the Super Bowl.
