Matt Ryan
It was presumed that the 28-3 humiliation at Super Bowl LI will be the lowest point in Matt Ryan’s career until December 17, 2022. Ryan’s Colts blew a 33-point lead against the Vikings to lose the game in OT. The Minnesota Vikings were 0-33 down at halftime and somehow managed to take the game in OT and eventually win it 39-36.
The Vikings won a mammoth 22 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game and won it in OT with a 40-yard field goal to clinch the NFC North for the first time since 2017. While it is true that the Vikings played exceptional offensive football in the second half, some blame for giving up such a huge lead goes to Colts’ QB, Matt Ryan.
Statistically, Ryan did well throughout the entire match and went 19-of-33 on the day for 182 yards with a touchdown. He basically did nothing wrong and even had zero interceptions. Despite that, he has been made the scapegoat for the loss because of his past. During Super Bowl LI, playing for the Falcons, Ryan blew a 28-3 lead against Tom Brady, which cost him a Super Bowl.
This was the second instance that Ryan blew up such a huge lead and hence, all the blame is being put on him. The reality is that the Colts‘ defense in the second half was very poor, which cost them the game, and nothing related to this was Ryan’s fault.
NFL Twitter slams Matt Ryan for choking once again

Many fans on social media understood that it wasn’t Ryan’s fault that the defense didn’t perform well in the second half, but some accused him of choking when it matters. Fans reminded everyone that Ryan blew up a huge lead a few years ago, too, and he did that again. Some even asked him to retire from the sport after such humiliation.
While with this win, the Vikings went 11-3 for the season and have qualified for the playoffs by clinching the NFC North division; the Colts are still at the No.3 spot in the AFC South with a 4-9-1 record for the season. They are one game behind the Jaguars and 3 games behind the Titans in the division. Moving forward, every game is a must-win for them as they face the likes of the Chargers, the Giants, and the Texans.
