To add fuel to the fire on the ongoing DeAndre Hopkins trade rumor, New England Patriots’ linebacker Matthew Judon shared a cryptic message on Twitter. Judon wrote, “GM of the year?” It’s been a herculean task for fans to ascertain what Judon meant exactly but most of them believe that this might be a nudge towards the once AFC powerhouse signing DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins was finally released by the Arizona Cardinals on May 26, 2023, after rumors that the team didn’t want him on the roster anymore. Now, the Pro Bowl wide receiver is a free agent and has been linked to a few teams, most notably to the New England Patriots.

The Patriots have no star power at wide receiver which has sparked rumors that the 6x Super Bowl-winning franchise might be the ideal destination for Hopkins. The 31-year-old wide receiver visited the Patriots for two days and reports suggest that both parties seemed satisfied with each other.

The Patriots made an offseason addition by signing newly crowned Super Bowl winner, JuJu Smith-Schuster to a three-year $25.5 million deal. However, there are concerns regarding his availability because he is still recovering from the knee injury he suffered in the AFC Championship game.

DeAndre Hopkins has been a stalwart receiver for most of his career and given the pickle New England is in regards to its wide receiving corps, his addition to the team will be fruitful. Hopkins and the Patriots are still evaluating whether or not to move forward on the deal and reports say that the former first-round pick is still in the area after his visit to Gillette Stadium.

Tom Curran of NBC Sports said, “I think people in the building are still wary, to an extent, of the culture fit. How much does he want to practice, what kind of hoops are the Patriots themselves gonna have to jump through to accommodate the way he likes to approach the game?”

Additionally, the Patriots can only spare about $14 million to have Hopkins on board without going over the salary cap. It’ll be interesting to see how the tides turn and whether Hopkins comes to New England or not.
