Max Duggan has started to make history even before being drafted into the NFL. The young draft prospect recently became the first TCU QB ever to win the prestigious Davey O’Brien award.
The Davey O’Brien Award is named after the TCU quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy. It is given to the most exceptional college quarterback of the year, based on his on-field performance.
Duggan had a great college football season with the TCU and was only second to the top NFL draft prospect behind QB Caleb Williams. The young TCU QB is under great company after winning the iconic award, as it was won by the legendary Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman before him.
“It’s pretty surreal,” Duggan said during the award’s press conference. “A year ago, I came here to have dinner with family friends. And I never would have thought I’d be here a year later winning the Davey O’Brien Award.”
Duggan had a great season with the TCU and could have also won the iconic Heisman Trophy, but USC QB Caleb Williams had a decent lead in front of him. However, Duggan is just the 4th TCU QB ever to be a Heisman Trophy finalist.
After all these accomplishments this year, Max Duggan decided to forgo his final year in college and has decided to put himself in this year’s NFL draft. Duggan will be competing with elite QBs this year and knows the reality that he’s not a top prospect.
Max Duggan wants an opportunity to compete in the NFL
The 21-year-old QB is looking forward to being drafted in the NFL. However, the reports are not well surrounding his draft, as many believe that he will be a third day pick in the 2023 draft.
Max Duggan is aware of his assessment and it doesn’t bother him either. The TCU QB just wants an opportunity to compete in the league with other QBs.
“There will be teams that really like me and there will be teams that don’t like me,” Duggan told WFAA’s Jonah Javad. “I understand I’m not one of the top guys and where you go in the draft isn’t relatively important to me, being able to have an opportunity to compete. Wherever you go, it’s about the right fit.”
Max Duggan will be patiently waiting for the NFL draft in April 2023, where his fate will be decided. The position of the draft doesn’t matter as long as the youngster gets a team to shine in, just like in the case of Tom Brady and 49ers QB Brock Purdy.
