“Rodgers does EVERYTHING better than Tom Brady”: How Max Kellerman’s nonsensical comment on the GOAT stripped him of his credibility

Tom Brady and Max Kellerman

Sports analysts have a history of making some ridiculous comments on air, no doubt are the shows extremely entertaining but at times, the analysts make such comments that leave us viewers baffled. Max Kellerman is one such analyst who is known for having some crazy takes, one such take is his infamous ‘Cliff Theory’ on Tom Brady. He had publicly gone on air on ESPN First Take, the show that he was a regular host on, and stated that after the 2016 season, Brady is done, he will go on a decline and will be forced to retire because Father Time would have gotten to him and negatively impacted his game.

It’s 2022 now and Max Kellerman is no longer on First Take, the flagship show of ESPN with ratings skyrocketing but Tom Brady is still in the NFL and is coming off of a stellar regular season in which he was a runner-up to win the MVP award. Max Kellerman’s cliff theory has clearly been proved wrong by the GOAT as he is still playing at age 45, but Max has stuck by his theory for a long time.

Max Kellerman’s Cliff Theory on Tom Brady has irked the GOAT himself:

In 2018, following Aaron Rodgers signing a massive extension with the Green Bay Packers for 4-years $134 million, Max Kellerman publicly stated that Aaron Rodgers is a much more valuable quarterback than Brady, “(Tom’s) significantly worth less than Aaron Rodgers because he is clearly better than Tom Brady, Rodgers does everything better than Brady. Bill Belichick runs that (Patriots) franchise, he is recognized as the greatest coach in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers holds the greatest touchdown to interception ratio of all time, he is more mobile. Brady has been on far better teams with a far better coach, and Rodgers has by himself gotten his team closer to winning the Super Bowl than Tom Brady has.” You could make a case that Brady was in a better situation with Belichick but his Super Bowl win in Tampa shows that he is the best player to ever do it.

Max believes that the reason Tom Brady has multiple Super Bowls is that he has been willing to take less money to ensure that the overall team dynamic can be good and that he has a better shot at winning while Rodgers is the opposite but he surprisingly blames the Packers organization for this and claims that they do not know how to spend their players on acquiring better talent. Max Kellerman continually mentioned on air that Brady is done, wait and watch as the cliff is coming, well the cliff never came Max.

Of course, his take did not age well as Brady has since gone on to win two Super Bowls while Aaron has not even reached the finals. If this was not enough, Max defended his Cliff Theory for nearly half a decade before finally admitting that he was wrong when Brady won the Super Bowl with Tampa Bay. He lost his credibility during those 5 years as, despite Tom performing at the top of his game, he couldn’t impress Max Kellerman. In 2022 there is no debate between Rodgers and Brady, we know who is better, sure you could bring up the MVPs but at the end of the day, Super Bowls are what help keep score in the NFL. Tom Brady’s game has over the years not just ended the Super Bowl aspirations of fans of other teams across the NFL but it has also ended the career of many media personalities. Looks like Max ended up falling off that cliff by himself.
