“Aaron Rodgers is the closest thing to Michael Jordan”: When Max Kellerman made an outrageous claim that didn’t age well
Sports analysts have been known to have some of the most outrageous and ridiculous takes, not every day but there are some days when they come up with these opinions and assumptions that make you wonder what was in their coffee cup that morning? If you have been following sports talk shows for a couple of years now, you will know that some takes have been so dumb and baseless that they have gotten these analysts fired. If you remember Ryan Hollins, he claimed that LeBron James had a tougher path to the finals than Michael Jordan and that if we were to replace MJ with LeBron in today’s NBA, he would not be able to fill his shoes.
Max Kellerman, ESPN First Take‘s former star is no surprise to making some ridiculous takes himself. He is the founder of the ‘Cliff Theory,’ 2016 he stated that Brady will be a bum from this point onwards and that he will not be the player he was. It was best that Tom retires as, given his age, he will just get worse. Well, that clearly did not age well as he went on to win three more Super Bowls after that, in 2017, 2019, and 2021. There is another comment that may have slid under the radar that Max made that not many of us may have noticed but we are here to give you a blast from the past!
“Aaron Rodgers can overcome anything”: Max Kellerman puts the QB on a pedestal
Max compared Aaron Rodgers to His Airness, Michael Jordan back in 2017. “Aaron Rodgers can overcome anything the best defense in the league, the best defense in the NFC, he is the closest thing to Michael Jordan I have seen on a football field in the sense that he can take a team with less than and make it better than it ought to be because he is unstoppable.”
That statement clearly did not age well. That year, Brady and his Patriots staged one of the most iconic comebacks in Super Bowl and sports history after they came back from a deficit against the Atlanta Falcons to win the chip. Aaron Rodgers from that point onwards has made the playoffs multiple times but he has never reached the one place that matters, the finals.
The quarterback has had multiple MVP seasons but he has not had many winning ones. If you are comparing ANYONE to Michael Jeffrey Jordan, they better be an MVP caliber player and they better have a winning record, those are the two essential requisites for any player to even be mentioned in the same conversation as the GOAT. Though Rodgers has not been anything close to MJ in the last 5 seasons, there is another man who has proven that he is the real GOAT, Tom Brady.
Brady may have watched this statement from Max and decided to use that as fuel to go ahead and win more rings. Rodgers has had quite the squad in the last few years, he has had Davante Adams and a good receiving core and the Packers defense has performed well when the team needed them to. With a good team by his side, Rodgers was unable to take the Packers to the promised land.
It may be high time that Max decides that he was wrong on this one as well, he did accept that he was wrong about the Cliff Theory when Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a Super Bowl there so that is good on him.
